Sports Massage

Sports massage focuses on the different needs of the individual sports person. Pretournament or competition massage a few days before an event needs to be lighter. While the body need to be prepared for the event, a massage that is too heavy at that time reduces performance. So a pre-event massage must be judged just right to invigorate the muscles and ready them for competition.

Post-event sports massage needs to be deeper, clearing the acid from the muscles, moving the blood around the body so the any damaged muscles can heal. Some of the muscles may still be tender from the event, but there is need to loosen them if they have gone into the spasm stage so the healing can progress.

At our Sydney massage clinic, attention is paid to muscle condition and fatigue of each section of the body. For sports people, there is a need to regularly maintain the condition of the muscles to maximise athletic performance.

Many people suffer injury or strain due to the particular demands of their sports so we treat calf locking, shin splints, upper leg over strain, tennis elbow, golf elbow, strains and long-term injuries. In some cases we may prescribe some herbs or supplements.

As a sports person you must look after your body to get maximum performance and also to retain, flexibility and movement. Regular massage allows you to keep doing your sport longer in better condition. If you have an injury regular massage will stop muscle addition and shortening of the muscles.

All sports massage treatments are carried out at our massage clinic in Sydney by Dr Tracie O’Keefe, DCH, BHSc, ND, who has nearly 40 years’ experience as a massage therapist.
