WHAT CLIENTS HAVE SAID ABOUT WORKING WITH DR TRACIE O’KEEFE DCH

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Hypnotherapy for Real?

Yes, hypnotherapy is a very real discipline that each year helps millions of people all around the world achieve their goals.

Hypnosis reaches deep into the unconscious mind and helps you change the way you think – fast!

It is a therapy that is very fast and goal directed and practised by therapists who have generally had had many years of training. In fact it is important that you choose a therapist that has had a recognised extensive training.

The importance of hypnotherapy as a discipline within the catalogue of therapies is very well recognised throughout Australia, with a high concentration of hypnotherapists in Sydney. It been practised for thousands of years in many different cultures. In Australia it is a very well accepted therapeutic discipline recognised by the Australian Medical Association (AMA), Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the Psychotherapy And Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).

You can even get treatment costs rebates from many Private Health Funds (PHF) such as Medibank Private, Australian Unity and many others. You can find out about health fund rebates on our dedicated health fund page. Only qualified, registered and recognised practitioners qualify to be on health fund rebates lists with PHFs.

Light-bulb-stringPeople often mistakenly believe that their problems cannot be solved and they are stuck with them for life. They invest in that disabling mindset because that is what they know. The truth, however, is really something quite different. If your mind can create a problem quickly, it can create a solution just as quickly.

Hypnotherapy Sydney is a very real way of accessing all the resources you already hold in your unconscious mind (the part that runs all the automatic processes in your body such as breathing) and using them to get where you want to go.

You can hang on to your problems or you can get help with hypnotherapy to let go of the problem state and create a solution state.

What is the Difference Between Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness. In other words you are not in your normal state of consciousness that you are usually in to go about your daily life.

‘Hypno’ in ancient Greek means ‘sleep’. This, however, is slightly misleading because hypnosis takes place between the state of full wakefulness and sleep, but people can appear to be asleep at times, with their eyes closed and motionless.

Hypnosis can take place in a state when the person appears to be awake as they are moving but they are in a trance-like state and acting upon the suggestions delivered by the hypnotist.

During hypnotic states the conscious mind moves to one side and the unconscious mind becomes more open to suggestion. This makes hypnosis an extraordinary tool to use to change the human condition, both physically and mentally.

Hypnotherapy science (science of hypnotherapy) uses hypnosis within the therapeutic environment. Pure hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis and suggestion. Hypnotherapists, however, are generally also trained as psychotherapists and counsellors, so they know in which direction to point your mind to get you where you want to go and what you want to become.

While hypnosis on its own is a very pleasant and comfortable experience, it is only a fraction of what hypnotherapists are trained to deliver to a client. They are also trained in diagnostic techniques and assessment.

To help people move forward, hypnotherapists help clients tease out and clarify their goals, then devise a treatment plan to help maximise the way they change their minds to achieve those goals.

Hypnotherapy is very powerful when practised by a skilled hypnotherapist.

What Conditions Can Hypnotherapy Treat?

The benefits of hypnotherapy are widely recognised in the field of behavioural change.

Hypnotherapy can also help to alleviate a myriad of conditions, both psychological and biological. Remember your mind runs your body as well as your body running your mind. When you change what your mind is doing you also change what your body is experiencing.

When carried out by a highly trained and experienced practitioner and used in conjunction with other therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy, hypnotherapy is also effective in helping people overcome the behaviours the other therapies have not been able to. You will see in or testimonial that many patients had been to so many other therapies before they came to us and were surprised who quick we helped them.

If it is a behaviour we can help you change it. If it’s a condition with partly a behavioural.

Tracie herself is and has been and extreme athlete who still dances on the points of her toes today and is in the top .009% of extreme fitness today in her age group.

Hypnotherapy has also been used widely through the world over the past 20 years in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and other gastrointestinal disturbances.

We are frequently asked to help people in educational situations with hypnotherapy to aid concentration during study, improve the ability to study, memory recall, and improve your ability to take exams of all kinds, from school and university to driving tests.

If you are not sure, always feel very welcome to telephone us at the Australian Health and Education Centre on 02 8021 6429 and one of our friendly staff will talk you through how we can help you.

Is Hypnotherapy a Science?

Clinical hypnotherapy is both a science and an art, like medicine and all other therapies. Dr Tracie O’Keefe DCH trained in hypnotherapy at undergraduate, post graduate and doctorate (DCH) level for several years. She is also a naturopath with a degree in complementary medicine. Undoubtedly her training was thoroughly scientific around the subject of hypnosis.

Clinical hypnotherapy is the science of using hypnosis within a clinical setting with psychotherapy, and, in the case of Dr Tracie O’Keefe DCH, within a medical setting too since she is a qualified and registered natural medicine practitioner.

She has also worked within the context of providing hypnosis within other medical settings such as anaesthesia, analgesia and healing. Furthermore she is a trained mental health professional who has worked with an array of serious mental illness as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and is also a psychotherapist, counsellor and sex therapist.

So Dr Tracie O’Keefe DCH’s experience is quite unique among hypnotherapists in that she is both trained in the (natural) medicine sciences and the psychotherapeutic sciences, which give her a vast amount of knowledge and cross-over clinical experience.

She has taught, lectured, researched and written extensively on hypnotherapy over the years, with her work reviewed and featured in both academic journals and mainstream media. She is the author of seven books, including her latest Amazon #1 Best Seller Inspiration for Survive and Prosper, a self-help guide to overcoming crisis and trauma.

Many people may have watched entertainment hypnosis on the television but clinical hypnotherapy is not at all the same. All clients are treated with the utmost respect and strict confidentiality in the privacy of our modern, comfortable air conditioned clinic.

Is Hypnosis Ever a One-Session ‘Quick Fix’ for a Problem?

Hypnosis using hypnotherapy or medical hypnosis should never be a one-session quick fix. While hypnosis is very powerful and changes can happen immediately for some people, no therapy can be scientifically valid as a one-session fix.

When hypnotherapy is used scientifically the therapist needs to use what is called in science ‘test and measure principles’. When a clinician treats someone they need to observe the effects of the treatment, otherwise how do they know how well the treatment is working.

According to how the treatment is progressing, a clinician may change some parts of the therapy to increase certain results or decrease unwanted effects. This follows the principles of what is called Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) – treatment administered and altered according to clinical evidence observed.

Since at our clinic we practise solution-focused therapy we want you to progress as quickly as possible; but we also use the principles of evidence based medicine because that is the responsible way to practise as a clinician and give you the very best service.

As clinicians we also have to adhere to strict ethical codes. We are obliged to observe a client’s progress. We do not see clients for just one session for hypnotherapy. While we work quickly we are dedicated to giving you the highest standard of service.

The law also requires us not to make claims for cures for various ailments and problems to you without responsibly following up the progress of those treatments.

A hypnotist practising hypnotherapy must abide by ethical guidelines and the law in the place in which they practise. Since Dr Tracie O’Keefe DCH practises hypnotherapy Sydney, she is bound by the code of practice for health practitioners set out by the New South Wales government.
